Scholarships and Grants
Merit scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence throughout their educational career. Students who have attained a high grade point average and/or MCAT score are considered for a merit scholarship at the time they are admitted to medical school. Once the Scholarship Committee makes a decision, the student is notified that he/she has been selected to receive a merit scholarship.
The UMMSM values diversity and strives to admit and retain a student body that reflects the community that it serves. Furthermore, the School of Medicine recognizes its obligation to train physicians that are skilled in cultural competence who can meet the demands of an increasingly diverse society. To that end, the UMMSM provides a number of diversity scholarships to students who have demonstrated a diversity of life experiences or a commitment to cultural competence. To be considered for a diversity scholarship, students who have been admitted to the School of Medicine must complete the FAFSA and an online application.
The UMMSM also strives to assist those students with significant financial need by providing need-based grants. To be considered for a need-based grant, students who have been admitted to the School of Medicine must complete the FAFSA and an online application. The FAFSA must also include parental information.
